How to Build a Project in openEHR CKM

This page describes a typical workflow.

1. Define the scope

Identify:

  • Clinical domain
  • Stakeholders
  • Governance model
  • Target implementations

2. Create the governance structure

Define:

  • Editors
  • Clinical reviewers
  • Technical reviewers
  • Publication rules

3. Develop archetypes

Create or reuse archetypes whenever possible.

Recommended steps:

  1. Search existing CKM repositories
  2. Reuse mature archetypes
  3. Create missing archetypes
  4. Submit them for review

4. Build templates

Templates combine archetypes to support a specific use case.

Examples:

  • Laboratory report
  • Vital signs form
  • Oncology dataset
  • PROM questionnaire

5. Manage terminology

Maintain:

  • Value sets
  • Terminology subsets
  • Bindings to SNOMED CT, LOINC or ICD

6. Publish and maintain

Once the project matures:

  • Publish artefacts
  • Document decisions
  • Track versions
  • Manage change requests
